Basics of Propellers
By finding the right combination of propeller, engine type, and boat size, the following performance enhancements can be achieved:
Increased top speed
Faster attainment of planing speed
Improved grip in the water
Better maneuverability
3- or 4-blade Propeller?
For recreational boats with 3, 4, and 6-cylinder inboard and outboard engines, we recommend 3-blade propellers. These provide quick planing and good top speed. For all-round boats and practical use, 4-blade propellers typically work best. These offer improved handling, shorter time to planing, higher load capacity, and enhanced fuel efficiency.
Aluminum or Steel Propeller?
Most recreational boats come standard with aluminum propellers. These are cost-effective, easy to repair, and have a long lifespan under normal conditions. Steel propellers are stronger and more durable than aluminum, but also more expensive. For achieving better performance such as higher speed or improved acceleration a steel propeller may be an advantageous alternative to aluminum.
